TorchWay Education is grounded in the belief that curriculum is not simply content delivery - it is intellectual architecture. Thoughtfully designed programs shape not only student outcomes, but the professional confidence and consistency of the teachers delivering them.

We believe that strong curriculum design makes excellence teachable.

At the same time, we recognise the realities of modern schools: evolving syllabuses, increasing moderation demands, and limited planning time. Our work exists to uphold academic integrity while protecting teacher workload. Every resource is created with coherence, academic rigour and long-term usability in mind.

Custom Curriculum Services

Faculties seeking whole-year level redesign, vertical curriculum alignment, or one-off units to support the teaching of a complex text are encouraged to contact us directly to discuss a tailored consultancy arrangement.

  • TorchWay units are built so that they deliberately return to a small set of enduring ideas that students revisit with increasing precision.

Faculties have the opportunity to select what concepts to explore or follow our approach of framing students’ exploration through the lenses of power, identity and belonging. This allows students to deepen insights across units - not through repetition, but through recontextualisation. Knowledge is not covered just once but built over time, supporting more sophisticated interpretation and stronger conceptual control.

  • Students are often told to ‘give more insight’ or ‘show, don’t tell’, but without a clear understanding of how writing works, these instructions remain difficult to act on.

At the centre of TorchWay is a clear principle: scaffolds are not designed to limit student expression, but to provide support to build student confidence, capability, and control. These explicit structures also provide a shared language for instruction and feedback.

Faculties can request the utilisation of their own language or incorporate TorchWay’s Writing Architecture frameworks:

    • FORGE - analytical

    • SHAPE - imaginative

    • EXPRESS - persuasive

    • TRACE - reflective

  • Most units don’t struggle because of weak lessons. They struggle because nothing is accumulating.

TorchWay’s high-quality curriculum is built upon our ‘Designing for Accumulation’ model so that each phase:

    • tracks student thinking to deliberately move them from personal, to textual, to conceptual

    • increases conceptual demand

    • shifts responsibility to students

Students should not feel as though they restart every lesson, every unit, or every term. Instead, ideas, skills, interpretations, and writing moves should build across time in visible, deliberate ways. This is why TorchWay units are not assembled as isolated sequences of activities.

  • TorchWay treats play not as a break from serious learning, but as one of its methods. In senior English, this means students are invited to test ideas, inhabit perspectives, rework texts, reshape voice, and move knowledge through form.

Play here is not novelty for its own sake. It is structured experimentation - a way of thinking that allows students to explore, hypothesise, and revise before fixing ideas into formal analysis or crafted response.

Recent research in secondary settings suggests that playful learning can increase participation, intellectual risk-taking, and deeper engagement when it is pedagogically designed rather than appended as a motivational extra. In other words, play creates the conditions for thinking.

Professional Development

TorchWay’s professional development sessions are grounded in a clear belief: strong outcomes are not incidental, they are designed. With a Masters in Educational Leadership and experience developing curriculum used in high-performing schools, our work focuses on helping faculties build coherent, rigorous programs that develop student thinking and writing with precision over time. Each session moves beyond isolated strategies, instead positioning teachers as designers of learning.

Our founder, Rebekah Sharrott, regularly presents at state and national conferences, sharing practical, research-informed approaches that bridge conceptual depth with classroom application.
